Davey Crockett Shoal Creek/Water fall Trail

Intro:

Davey Crockett State Park is a beautiful state park located in Lawrenceburg, Tn. The Shoal Creek trail will take you along side shoals creek and take you to a beautiful water fall known as "Crockett Falls". Crockett Falls is the pride of Davey Crockett State Park. The Water fall trail is a short half mile trail that will take you to a large waterfall north of the lake. An added bonus is the Crockett museum located on the park property for the history buff in you!

Trail Head:

The trail head is located in the camp ground area of DCSP.

To access the trail head: I have actually never started at the trail head at the campground. The location where I started is a small trail off the main road in the state park that takes you to the trail. The next time I am up there I will update on how to locate it. I do know it is near one of the pavilions along side the main road. I suppose you could also start at Crockett falls but I like to end my hike there.

To access the water fall trail head just drive right up to the lake, you will see a long dirt road on the east side of the lake.

Difficulty:

The trail is pretty easy to hike. I mainly remember a few hills.

Hiking the Trail:

I suggest parking in one of the pavilion parking lots just off the main road. Walk straight across and You will see the overlook trail. get on the overlook trail and head south, and then you will see a connector trail (marked with white squares on the trees). Head east on the connector trail for a little ways and you will then reach the Shoal creek trail (marked in green). Head north on the Shoal Creek trail. Just stay along the trail and enjoy the scenery as you hike your way towards Crockett falls. At the end of the Shoal Creek trail you will hit the steps trail. Just take the steps trail down to Crockett falls. When you reach Crockett falls this will be the end of the trail. After hiking your way back I suggest taking another short hiking trail on the other side of the park. This trail (the overlook trail) will take you up on a hillside and give you some great views. Once you get back to the parking area all you have to do is cross the road and the overlook trail continues from there. Hike it until you reach the loop. Hike the loop and then make your way back for an enjoyable addition to your hike.

There is also a short half mile out and back trail called the water fall trail that will take you to a large water fall north of the lake. It is well worth adding a mile to your hikes to enjoy this.

Scenery:

You get an awesome view of Shoal Creek, deer, other wildlife, Crockett Falls, and a large water fall.

Trail Maintenance:

The trail is maintained pretty well as far as I can remember.

Facilities:

There are bathrooms, camp grounds, a restaurant, a cool museum, and many other cool stuff at Davey Crockett to enjoy after your hike.
