Fall Hollow Falls Trail
Intro:
The Fall Hollow Falls trail is short hiking trail (less than 1/4 mile to the overlook, maybe 1.5 miles if you go further) located just off the Natchez Trace Parkway near Hohenwald,Tn. It features a beautiful waterfall near the beginning of the trail and other small waterfalls further down the trail. A short hike on a paved trail will take you to the overlook while another unpaved, slippery, and unmaintained trail will take you a some more scenic waterfalls within Fall Hollow.
Trail Head:
The trail head is located just off the Natchez Trace Parkway, not far past the Meriwhether Lewis Monument Park.
To access the trail head: You can't miss it, it's located near the parking area.
Difficulty:
This trail gets two ratings and here is why: The hike to the overlook is paved and easy, however, if you choose to hike further to see the rest of the waterfalls the trail can get steep and the footing is really slippery in places so BECAREFUL!
Hiking the Trail:
To hike to the overlook you will start at the trail head and make your way towards two wooden bridges that cross over the main creek. A short hike from there will take you the overlook where you can get some great views and pictures of the main waterfall. After this point the trail gets tougher and more tricky. The trail from here is gravel, dirt, or rock and can be really slippery so BECAREFUL! Make sure you wear good griping hiking boots for this if you continue. If you continue further to check out the other falls just continue past the overlook and a short hike will take you a smaller scenic waterfall. From here you can hike down to the bottom of that waterfall to get better photos. Once you have made it to the bottom you can continue a little further to reach the bottom of the bigger waterfall. From here you just backtrack and make your way back.
Scenery:
Fall Hollow Falls offers an awesome view of a large waterfall near the beggining of the trail and also some smaller waterfalls further down.
Trail Maintenance:
The trail is well maintained all the way to the overlook. However, if you continue further the trail is clear but really slippery.
Facilities:
There are no facilities here, however, the trail is located a few miles north of the Meriwhether Lewis Monument Park which has bathrooms, camping, e.t.c. An added bonus to this trail is that it is located near the 3.5 mile trail at the Meriwhether Lewis Park, a few miles south of the 3.0 mile Devils Backbone trail, and it's near the swan view overlook.
