Intro:

The Flint River and Big Cove Creek Greenways are near the mountains in Owens Cross Roads Alabama. The greenways will take you on a scenic walk on a paved walkway along side Big Cove Creek and the Flint River. These trails meet up at the Hays Nature Preserve , so you may want to hike those trails as well.

Trail Head:

The southern trail head for Big Cove Creek greenway and the western trail head for the Flint River greenway are located at the Hays Nature Preserve parking area. Both have trail heads on the opposite ends as well.

To access the trail head: Each trail head is easy to spot. They are both at the parking area.

Difficulty:

Very easy. They are bothed paved walkways.

Hiking the Trail:

Nothing much to hiking these. Just hit the trails and walk from one end to the other and enjoy the views along the way.

Scenery:

Both trails give you great views of the creek and river and also some great views of the mountains.

They are very well maintained

Facilities:

Both trails pass through the Hays Nature Preserve which is an added bonus. At the Hays Preserve parking area there are restrooms, a picnic area, playground, access to the horseback trails, and parking for horse trailers.
